Nina Yates, L.M.F.T.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

About Nina Yates:

There are many qualified counselors. Why choose Nina Yates?

“I have seen therapists before, and with Nina I felt nurtured, safe, and cared for within the first few minutes. Her calming presence allowed me to relax and feel accepted… to really open up and fully evaluate my role in relationships and to know myself better. I am better equipped to have more closeness and intimacy with those in my life.”

--TG, Portland, OR

“I felt very comforted by Nina's soothing presence. I was able to relax, be present and explore deeper parts of myself than I have in other therapy situations. Her approach left me with a feeling of being more integrated and complete."

--PL, Portland, OR

Did you know that…?

… research indicates that the most significant predictor of a successful therapy outcome is the quality of the relationship between the therapist and the client.

Nina takes this very seriously and cares deeply about her relationship with each client. She feels very strongly that when her clients have the experience of feeling truly known, accepted and connected that positive life change is more profound and longer lasting.

Nina is uniquely qualified to support the adoption community.

In addition to focused research and special training in adoption specific concerns, Nina is also adopted herself. She has been reunited with her birth family for almost 20 years. Navigating the complexity of that experience has nurtured her compassion and understanding of complicated feelings for all adoption constellation members.

Nina Yates holds a Masters in Counseling from Portland State University and is a member of the American Mental Health Counselors Association. She is also a teacher facilitator for Adoption Mosaic; a Portland based non-profit organization dedicated to providing support and education to all members of the adoption community. Nina’s post masters studies include intensive training in Hakomi, a therapeutic approach centered in the use of mindfulness.
